There’s a quote from Mahatma Gandhi that says,
“The future depends on what you do today.”
This sentiment is empowering—it reminds us that we hold the keys to our own futures.
Whether you’re currently employed, searching for new opportunities, or just looking to grow in your career, there’s always room for improvement and success. Your career, wellbeing, and personal growth are your responsibility, and I want to help you crush your goals.
In this issue, I’ll share proven strategies to land interviews at your dream companies and hopefully 2x your income.
Fun fact: These are the same tactics I use at Virtual Wizards to secure clients and earn thousands of dollars in hiring fees every month.
Use Job Boards as Your Personal Database
What does this mean?
Don't just apply for roles and close the tab. Instead, scrape job boards to find positions you’re most interested in, then compile them into a spreadsheet for tracking.
Here's why:
Only 2-3% of online applications result in a job. That means for every 100 applications, you'll hear back from just 2-3 companies—not great odds. Therefore, use job boards primarily to track which companies are hiring for the roles you're interested in.
I filmed a video this week talking about this. Check it out here.
Research the Company in Detail
Once you’ve identified potential employers, start researching 👇
- Read news articles: Stay updated on company news and trends.
- Find interviews with executives: Gain insights into the company’s vision and culture.
- Read customer reviews of their products: Understand the market perception.
- Speak to current employees: Get firsthand information about the company’s work environment and hiring process.
Network Strategically
Don’t just send connection requests to all employees. Instead, focus on individuals who can influence your hiring for the target roles. For example:
If applying for a Customer Success Role, network with the Director of Customer Success.
If applying for a Project Management Role, network with the Director of Project Management or the VP of Operations.
If applying for a Director of Customer Success position, network with the VP of Customer Success.
For a UI/UX role, connect with the Director of Marketing.
If you're aiming for a Developer position, reach out to the Tech Lead or Director of Development.
Reach out to these key individuals via LinkedIn. If they don't respond, follow up with a cold email.
Wondering how to find their email addresses? Use tools like Apollo or Scrapp.io to get their contact information. Both of these tools offer free versions that are perfect for your job search.
Here's a short clip on how to find contact information for recruiters and Senior members that you could reach out using Apollo 👇
The clip above demonstrates how to identify decision-makers and recruiters effectively using a simple formula.
Start with a job listing to get the company name. Then, navigate to Apollo, search by the company name, filter by management level to find senior directors, and finally, select the best individuals to reach out to, as shown in the examples.
